  • The Wizards' 2020 Offseason: Lopez, Wall, Strategy and More

Ben Becker joins the #SoWizards podcast to talk about the Wizards' nutty 2020 trip through NBA free agency. In this wide-ranging conversation, Kevin and Ben dive into all the major Wizards topics:

    • Using the midlevel exception on Robin Lopez
    • John Wall's desire to be traded, and
    • the team's apparent lack of a cohesive team-building strategy.
    • In the most surprising development considering that it's an episode involving Kevin and Ben, the recording ends on a somewhat optimistic note.

    • The Wizards Need to Pick a Lane with Ben Becker

My guest this week is long-time friend and former podcast partner, Ben Becker. We talked about what The Bubble meant for the Wizards and delved into his article on BulletsForever.com in which Ben told GM Tommy Sheppard he needs to make a firm decision about the team's strategy over the next 2-3 seasons.

We looked at what Rudy Gobert...or someone...might mean to the Wizards' chances of playing meaningful basketball over what's left of John Wall's career and what the Wizards should with head coach Scott Brooks as he enters the final year of his contract.

    • The 2020 NBA Draft with Nathan Froe (Dat2U)
Nathan Froe, known on the internet as Dat2U, has demonstrated a great eye for talent in the NBA draft over the past 20+ years. I've known him online on the Wizards RealGM message for much of that time and have watched him nail draft after after draft. We talk about it on the pod, but his best pick was probably Stephen Curry, who he wrote was "a perfect prospect" at a time when most analysts were questioning his size and strength.
In this long episode dedicated to analyzing the 2020 NBA Draft, we dug into critical draft-related topics like:
      Kwame Brown
      Jared Dudley
      Juwan Howard and Chris Webber
      Isaac Austin and Ben Wallace
      Ian Mahinmi
      Isaiah Thomas
      Admiral Schofield, and
      more. Lots more.
We DO dig into the draft and discuss a bit about how we each approach evaluating prospects. I'm planning to have him on again when the draft is closer. And I'm planning to make sure we stick to the topic.
Apologies for the audio quality. We had the dreaded technical glitch and had to record using an app that was less than optimal. This will be fixed for the next episode.

    • Bradley Beal for Brandon Ingram — Should the Wizards do it?

Kevin and guest Ben Mehic dig into why the Wizards should trade Bradley Beal to the New Orleans Pelicans for Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball and Jaxson Hayes. They also take a look at the NBA’s planned restart to the 2019-20 season and whether John Wall should take the court when play resumes.

Closing theme written and produced by Andy Broom.

I considered making a podcast the Washington Wizards franchise deserved, but that would be #SoWizards.
