  • To Rihanna or to Ari Lennox? That is the question | @obabalu (Ep. 116)
On this episode Oba and I are just chillin and chopping it up about life. We hadn’t seen or talked to each other in a while. We ended up discussing. Oba’s first journey into having a salaried position and what that transition has been like for him. I talk about my mismanagement of money while I was in corporate sales, making good money but spending more than I was making and racking up credit card debt.
Most importantly, Oba is at that point in his life where he wants settle down and I do my best to help him stop chasing that Rihanna’s and the SZA’s and find himself an Ari Lennox! Oba solicits from the listeners, specifically from married women, questions that a single brotha that’s looking for wifey should ask the women that he’s dating. What questions can he ask that will weed out those that are not looking for a long-term relationship and to find a proper wifey candidate. Listen and enjoy!

  • Listen to the Griots | Sanabah Kuyateh (Ep. 114)
On this episode I speak with my guy Sanabah Kuyateh. He is from The Gambia in West Africa and he is a descendant the griots of West Africa. He has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to history and particularly African history. We discuss how the trans-saharan slave trade influenced the transatlantic slave trade. A lot of modern day Africans don’t have extensive knowledge on what happened to their ancestors that were shipped away in the transatlantic slave trade. Very similar to how in America, we were taught that African countries are mostly “3rd world” countries and they mostly live in huts… We discuss the migration story of Hebrew Israelites to “Negroland” and “The Land of Judah,” we touch on the Mandingo people, the Mali Empire, Timbuktu, West African Mythology, the Dogon and their philosophy, the possibility of black American migrating back to Africa and how we might be treated when we come back, and go down many other rabbit holes.

  • The Secret of Selling the Negro (Ep. 109)
On this week's episode Maundo and I listen and react to a 1954 video entitled "The Secret of Selling the Negro." The Secret of Selling the Negro depicts the lives, activities, and consumer behavior of African American professionals, students, and housewives. A
Business Screen reviewer noted that the film focused on the “bright positive” aspects of the “new Negro family.” The film was created in partnership with Ebony and Jet magazine, in cooperation with the United States Department of Commerce. The purpose of the film is to encourage racist white business owners to set aside their racist misconceptions and get to the money. In the 40's and 50's black families fled the Jim Crow south and moved north and west to take advantage of job opportunities that didn't involve sharecropping.
Maundo and I react to the clips and also go in depth to discuss the aftermath of Nipsey Hussle's death
