Eric earned an M.B.A. at Tulane University and a B.A. from Loyola University in Advertising Communications with a minor in Marketing. With over 28 years of strategy, advertising and media buying experience, Eric regularly speaks on the topics at conferences. In 2009, he was named Top Executive of the Year by the Advertising Club of New Orleans. He has taught Advertising Media Planning in Loyola University’s Communications Department and is a fellow of Loyola’s Institute for Environmental Communications and the Institute of Politics. Eric sits on the Board of Directors of the Go.Be., supporting entrepreneurial minority small business owners, and is a past board member of Louisiana Chapter of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization and the Tulane Association of Business Alumni.

In 1986, Scott received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Florida. In 1990, he received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he had been a member of both the Moot Court and served as Vice Chancellor of the Student Honor Court.

His legal career began in 1990 at a leading Tampa defense firm as an associate, where he defended all types of individuals and corporations accused of causing personal injuries, including doctors, jail medical providers, hospitals, and nursing homes. In 1998, he became a shareholder of the firm, and remained there until 2000, when he decided to help injured people. From January of 2000 until February of 2006, Scott helped start a distinguished plaintiff’s personal injury law firm in Tampa, where he practiced before starting Distasio Law Firm.

Today, Scott is a Tampa personal injury lawyer who is licensed to practice law in both Florida and Pennsylvania. He is admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Florida, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit. He’s also admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court.

John is the founding attorney and current managing partner at the firm, The Law Office of John Butler.  John grew up in Amherst, New Hampshire. 

Strategy and tactical thinking were drilled into him from an early age: he took his first chess lesson around age four and didn’t stop until, among innumerable other championships, a national chess title in Charlotte in 1999.  After high school John attended Dickinson College in Pennsylvania, graduating with a major in Computer Science and Mathematics.

A full academic scholarship to Tulane Law School brought John down from the North to New Orleans in 2004, where he met his wife, Dr. Isolde Butler, and has stayed ever since.  John has operated his own firm in complex tax planning and defense for the past fourteen years. 

In that time, John has personally handled thousands of advisory cases, tax workouts, criminal defenses and requests for specific tax advice on behalf of clients ranging from individuals to local businesses to Fortune 500 financial institutions.

John fondly describes defending his clients as playing chess on paper.
