The Spaghetti Podcast is back! We will be recapping the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games! The Olympics never fail to leave me stunned. I revel at the fact that I can witness athletes move in extraordinary ways. But there is a lot that we don't see or hear about. Olympic athletes dedicate nearly their entire lives to the day they will perform at the Olympic Games. What is it about them that allows them to compete at the Olympic level - a level that no other human can compete at? In Episode 7, we will be taking a look at the U.S. National Gymnastics team, and explore the story of Sunisa Lee. We will also be observing the relationship Lee had with fellow teammate Simone Biles, and how they comforted each other prior to the 2020 Games held this past summer. Just like we can set standards with spaghetti, Olympic athletes set standards for themselves by competing in different environments and qualifiers ahead of the actual games.

We often focus on ourselves when it comes to resilience - how we can adjust this way, what can we do better, etc. But what about those that take upon the responsibility of a Patriot? How does it feel to come down with a wound, lose a body part, or break a bone? How do you stay flexible during the recovery process? In Episode 6, we'll be taking a look at the band "The Resilient", and how they formed as a result of their injuries, through the help of MusicCorps and director Greg Loman. We'll be exploring what it meant for these Army members to be able to perform and bond with each other in spite of their physical losses.

We've emphasized the importance of being resilient, staying determined, and developing the skill of perseverance. That being said, lows occur in life, and it's hard to take in something so severe and unexpected. How do you cope and remain resilient when you have almost nothing going your way? In Episode 4, we dive into Elliot Choy's rollercoaster college experience at Vanderbilt University, and how he was able to create his own opportunities in order to pick himself up after going through a long period of heartbreak.

It goes without saying that we are shaped by experience. All of what we have accomplished doesn't necessarily define us, but helps us build up our stepping stone. But how do we make the most of what we have experience in our life to build up resilience? Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft Corporation, was able to elevate his initial passion for computers and technology to the creation of the largest operating system in the world today. Initially, even Gates felt the pressure of mistakes, and the uncertainty of such a powerful device - and how it could sustain society moving forward. Meeting Paul Allen, the other co-founder of Microsoft, working with IBM Cloud, and relocating to Seattle contributed to Gates's further development with Microsoft. How did Gates encompass the 10,000 hour rule outlined by Malcolm Gladwell in Outliers? We often hear about the importance of persistence, determination, and perseverance in terms of success, but what are steps we can take to developing those ideas in our daily lives? Episode 2 of Spaghetti focuses on the relationship between opportunity and perseverance and how to make the best uses out of the resources we are given in order to accomplish any task and gain experience with commitment. Just like a strand of spaghetti, remember to be rigid at heart, and stay flexible and open to change.

Life is a continuous process of adjustment and adaptation. When faced with new circumstances, how well do individuals exhibit resilience, and why or how often do we end up seeing retaliation? In the pilot episode of Resilience, I introduce and develop the idea of resilience through a personal anecdote. I also mention that in this series, I plan to examine examples of resilience in our society, highlighting the importance of experience.
