Andrea Contato’s Through the Moongate, per its Kickstarter page, “illuminates the path of the Ultima games' history and the creative people behind this landmark series. It also covers some of Origin’s other games, especially Wing Commander, and touches on several contemporary titles. Many of these tales have never before been told.” The book “aims to be a more complete account of Origin’s history than has ever been presented before.”
This episode covers Origin Systems' struggle to adapt to developing Ultima 6 for MS-DOS.

If you could have the ear of somebody who could make a new Ultima game, even for a minute...what would your proposal for that game be?
That was the topic suggested just prior to this episode’s recording session, and by and large it’s the topic we stuck with all through the conversation.

Humility, of all the Eight Virtues, is the most difficult to really understand.

The virtue of Humility, in Ultima lore and in real life, is one of the more difficult virtues to describe. In fact, it is often easier to analyze by looking at what it is not, rather than at what it is.
Saint Josemaria Escriva, in life a Catholic priest, was a philosopher who mused quite a lot on the concept of Humility, and in one of his “Furrows” (writings), he put forth a list of signs of a lack of humility. The seventeen points on this list will form the basis of this Byte-Sized Virtue season; if all goes well, we’ll handle one a week, but if need be we’ll consider multiple signs in a single episode.
This week offers a look at the sixth and seventh signs (we’ll come back to the fifth later): “Not being aware that all the gifts and qualities you have are on loan,” and “not acknowledging that you are unworthy of all honour or esteem, even the ground you are treading on or the things you own.”

This week offers a brief - very brief - look at the fourth sign: “Giving your opinion without being asked for it, when charity does not demand you to do so.”

For this week, only two more of the signs are under discussion: “Always wanting to get your own way,” and “[a]rguing when you are not right or — when you are — insisting stubbornly or with bad manners.”
