Sparkle Speak

Sonya Hunter has launched her debut book Unsurvivable, which encourages readers to look for the rainbow through their darkest storms.

Sonya walks us through how God showed up for her and her son after a fatal car accident that left them battling for life and healing. As we go through some of life's greatest storms, it's nice to know we are not alone, but also that Jesus is in control through it all.

Jodie Niznik, host of the "So Much More: Creating Space for God" Podcast, joins us to share her story of faith.

We discuss how often times, our own personal views of our earthly fathers, as well as the cultural view of God, hinders the way we experience him as "Abba" (Father).

Jodie also points us towards her free Lent Journal, which can help prepare our hearts to receive the message of Easter this season.

Elle Lambadarios (our first episode guest) shares her story of literally coding on an operation table after giving birth, to running a full marathon in NYC. She recounts how she was never afraid, because she knew God was with her on a deep level. As she crossed the finish line, she said "it was You, God, who saved me".

Elle shares with us the miracles she experienced as God literally saved her life right before her eyes (even when she literally, could not see). Prayer, forgiveness, and perseverance mark her story.

We also talk about how there is no right or wrong way to feel close to Him.

In her writing, she loves to unite the power of a good story with biblical truth and practical application to encourage readers. For more information visit AshleighSlater.com.

Ashleigh and Kathryn dive into one of the Team Us Podcast's recent episodes, "How to Rescue a Valentine's Day Gone Wrong", dealing with loss after miscarriage, and anxiety with panic attacks.

Scripture Meditations:
“I've told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I've conquered the world.” (John 16:33, MSG).

"Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:5-7).

In this episode, we are joined by the former Director of the Indiana State Department of Agriculture, Gina Sheets (2013). Gina is a born Hoosier, and maintains a small farm in Clinton County Indiana. Gina and her husband, Travis, are a part of the founding team of Hope in the Harvest Missions International, where they spent five years living and volunteering in Liberia, West Africa.

We talk about how Gina knew she felt called to serve in Liberia, the beginnings of Hope in the Harvest Missions International, and the devastation she encountered in Liberia during the Ebola outbreak. Gina reveals she often feels like Jonah being called to Nineveh. Through her story, we can all find hope (and advice) for how to navigate the seasons of life where we are being called to challenging experiences.

Gina gives her take on how to:
1. Know we are being called, and
2. What to do about it.

Kathryn is joined by Donna Bur (wife, mom of three grown children, and hair stylist/ salon owner). This episode features and interview with former field hockey player and current Athletes in Action staff member, Lauren Bonness.

We discuss her transformation into someone who called herself a believer, to someone who really saw the beauty in surrendering her desires over to Jesus to let him be in control of her heart and thoughts.

She shares a powerful insight from Scripture, which highlights how we can transform the dark parts of our hearts. We discuss how much of that is choosing our words wisely in how we speak; we get to bless through our words or we can bring death. We also have the opportunities in life to join God in speaking light, seeing what's good, serparating it from the darkness, and naming it. Enjoy hearing from Lauren!
