Roblox beat its own plan in the third quarter and came in under the Street’s bars on users and the fourth-quarter guide. Bookings cleared the top of the range, daily users returned to growth, and management called seasonally adjusted retention its best since 2021. The quarter’s mechanism was the recommendation algorithm, now weighted by age cohort.
This episode grades the earlier calls, including one we got wrong, and makes the edition’s argument: the age check has become load-bearing. It gates chat, sets a 42% creator-pay premium on verified-adult spend, and steers distribution, while state settlements bind platform changes around it. Then the legal map, the first federal item in the 10-Q, and the question a director asked after the last edition: what should the board own, and where?

Roblox grew revenue 36% and had its hardest day as a public company — on purpose. The audio edition of the August 6 director briefing: the algorithm trade, the litigation map, and the three words the whole thesis rests on.
Roblox's Q2 print is the first full income statement of a decision the company made deliberately: spend near-term monetization buying long-term trust. We call it trust capex — a capital investment in the platform's license to operate, carried entirely on the income statement, with no line item and no disclosed date of return.
