Summary
Karen Butz Webb shares her personal journey of self-discovery through the metaphor of her 'kitchen table,' exploring the many facets of her identity and how they shape her daily life. This inspiring talk encourages embracing all parts of ourselves to live authentically.
Takeaways
Our identities are a mishmash of experiences and personalities.
Each 'Karen' at the table represents a different aspect of us.
Understanding and embracing all parts of ourselves leads to authenticity.
Our past experiences create threads that help us navigate life.
We are not one-dimensional; we are a tapestry of experiences.
What happens when a woman who spent much of her life believing she didn't belong decides to create spaces where other people can finally feel seen, heard, and valued?
That's the story behind Speak Boldly.
In this episode, Lorraine Connell shares the personal journey that led her to create the Speak Boldly podcast and showcases—and why she believes so deeply that every person has a story worth telling.
Long before Speak Boldly existed, Lorraine was a teenage girl searching for acceptance and belonging. She knew what it felt like to be on the outside of a group, to question her worth, and to believe that somehow she wasn't enough.
Those experiences followed her into her career as a teacher and coach, where she became passionate about building connection and creating opportunities for young people who didn't always see themselves as leaders.
Eventually, Lorraine realized that the thread connecting so much of her work was simple:
Connection creates belonging. And when we feel like we belong, we become more willing to use our voices, take risks, and do things we never thought we could do.
That realization became the foundation for Speak Boldly.
In this episode, Lorraine talks about:
Speak Boldly grew from a simple realization: we don't become speakers because someone gives us a microphone. We become speakers when we realize our story is worth telling.
The women who step onto the Speak Boldly stage aren't necessarily professional speakers. Some have never spoken publicly before. Some don't consider themselves leaders. Some have spent years believing their experiences weren't important enough to share.
But when they tell their stories, something happens.
They see themselves differently, and the people listening often see themselves in the story too.
That's the power of speaking boldly.
Why You Should Be Part of This MovementIf you've ever thought:
"I'm not really a speaker." "I don't have a story interesting enough to tell."
"Who would want to hear what I have to say?"
This podcast—and this movement—was created for you.
You don't need a perfect story, a famous story.
You don't need to have everything figured out.
You simply need a story that has shaped you.
Because somewhere, someone may need to hear it.
And when one person has the courage to speak boldly, they give someone else permission to do the same.
Join the ConversationIf this episode resonates with you, don't just listen—be part of the movement.
Follow Speak Boldly, share this episode with someone who needs to hear it, and connect with us on social media.
And if you've ever wondered whether your story belongs on this podcast or on a Speak Boldly stage, Lorraine would love to hear from you.
Because this movement isn't about Lorraine.
It's about all of us choosing to believe that our voices matter, our stories matter, and that there is room for all of us to be heard.
Welcome to Speak Boldly, The Podcast.
This podcast was born from a simple belief: everyone has a story worth sharing.
What began as the Speak Boldly Showcase—a live event where everyday people step onto a stage to share the stories that shaped them—has grown into a community that celebrates courage, vulnerability, and the power of using your voice.
On this podcast, you'll hear powerful talks from the Speak Boldly stage, along with reflections that invite you to think a little deeper about the messages behind them. You'll meet people who chose courage over comfort, discovered strength they didn't know they had, and reminded us that our stories have the power to help others feel less alone.
Whether you're someone who dreams of standing on a stage one day, someone searching for the confidence to share your voice, or simply someone who loves hearing authentic stories of growth and resilience, you're in the right place.
Because speaking boldly isn't about having the loudest voice in the room.
It's about having the courage to use the one that's already yours.
Thank you for being here. We hope each episode leaves you feeling a little more connected, a little more courageous, and ready to write the next chapter of your own story.
If an episode resonates with you, be sure to subscribe, leave a review, and share it with someone who needs the reminder that their voice matters too.
