  • [Adulting] The beauty standards in society

Society has a set idea of what is and isn’t attractive. And while we’ve probably read somewhere that this varies between time periods, and across different social and cultural communities, we often gloss over the fact that perceptions of “beauty” are often influenced and even reinforced by a majority group think.

It’s human nature to want to be liked and thought attractive, and it’s perfectly okay to enjoy a confidence boost when someone says you're beautiful. Social media has pervaded many aspects of our lives, not least our perception of beauty. Countless news reports and studies have already shown how social media can negatively impact self-esteem, especially among the youth. It promotes social comparison and builds feelings of envy, inferiority and insecurity.

In this episode, Kiky is accompanied by a guest star, our beautiful English Today teacher, Dita, discussing what really matters in beauty in the eyes of ourselves as women. This episode is more about supporting other women and encouraging them to love themselves better, because beauty comes from within, and a happy heart is all that required. Feel free to write your comments on our IG: @englishtoday.

  • [Brain Juice] Improve your...what was I saying?

A strong memory depends on the health and vitality of your brain. Whether you’re a student studying for final exams, a working professional interested in doing all you can to stay mentally sharp, or a senior looking to preserve and enhance your grey matter as you age, there’s lots you can do to improve your memory and mental performance.

They say that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but when it comes to the brain, scientists have discovered that this old adage simply isn’t true. The human brain has an astonishing ability to adapt and change—even into old age. This ability is known as neuroplasticity. With the right stimulation, your brain can form new neural pathways, alter existing connections, and adapt and react in ever-changing ways.

In this episode, Gio and Kiky are explaining some effective ways that might help improving your memory in a long term. Give us your comments on our IG: @englishtoday or youtube channel: englishtodayindonesia.  Hope you enjoy!
