This story of the merciful king and the unforgiving slave, shared by Jesus, illustrates the nature of God’s forgiveness. It shows that despite our human doubts and fears, we can trust in the reality of God’s grace and love, which Jesus came to reveal to humanity. This revelation empowers us to extend forgiveness and love to others, just as we have received it from God, without doubting that such goodness is too good to be true.

When our world feels divided, it’s good news that Jesus can help us in our relationships, especially when we argue or hold grudges. He can be with us when we try to make peace with someone who hurt us, and with God’s help, we can see others as Jesus does, treat them kindly, and heal our broken relationships.

When we forget God’s presence and what he has done for us, we experience fear and anxiety. Through constant reminders from the Bible and our Christian community, we can find peace and joy in remembering that Christ is always with us even in our darkest days.

Jacob wrestling with God in Genesis 32 shows how God humbly engages with us, allowing us to boldly wrestle and be transformed. By surrendering ourselves to be molded and transformed by God’s unwavering love, we fulfill the intimacy desired by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Just as we can demonstrate stubbornness in our unwavering love for our family or friends, God’s faithfulness and love towards us are characterized by an unyielding commitment that nothing can separate us from His love. In Romans, we are assured that nothing in all creation can hinder or break the relationship of God’s love for us in Christ Jesus, giving us hope, courage, and the assurance of His unwavering affection.

In our mission to engage with the world, we must remember that we don’t “take” Jesus to places. Rather, we join Him where He already is. Just as God was present in Jacob’s ordinary place, Jesus is already at work in our neighborhoods. Knowing all this, we can confidently love our neighbors and bear witness to the greatness of our Lord, knowing that He is with us wherever we go.

As we reflect on how short life can be, from a Christian perspective, we can shift our focus to the reality that “death is short” compared to the eternal life we have in Christ. By trusting in God’s faithful word and the resurrection life found in Christ, we can live each day fully, knowing that death no longer has the final word, and eternity with Christ awaits us.
