Why does a company whose mission is helping families navigate the maze of disability services interview a contractor? Because many of us are looking to finish a basement, have an addition installed, or just renovate a bathroom/kitchen. And, speaking for myself, don't have a clue where to start or what questions to ask.
Scottie Pitts provides insight and tips for hiring contractors. He also explains the difference between a contractor and a handyman. Check your State, MHIC governs Maryland - each state will have a similar organization.
Please keep in mind higher quotes do not necessarily mean someone is trying to rip you off. Skilled craftsmen deserve to be compensated. They are no less skilled than physicians, attorneys, and other "white collar" professions. Requires more than just the ability to swing a hammer - they must have incredible attention to detail.
