SPECIAL OPERATIONS WARRIOR FOUNDATIONEmpowering the Families of Fallen and Wounded Special Operations Forces since 1980Mission Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) supports America’s Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps Special Operations personnel through two programs: (1) Ensuring full financial assistance for postsecondary education from an accredited two or four-year college, university, technical or trade school, as well as educational counseling, preschool grants, and tutoring to the surviving children of Special Operations personnel who lose their lives in the line-of-duty and, (2) Providing immediate financial grants to severely combat-wounded and hospitalized Special Operations personnel and their families.History Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) was founded in 1980 after the daring attempt to rescue 53 American hostages in Iran, which ended in the tragic loss of eight servicemen who left behind 17 children. A battlefield promise to take care of those 17 children has become the noble mission of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation to educate and empower over 1,300 children.Future VisionEntering our 40th year of service in 2020, Special Operations Warrior Foundation has launched the Enduring Promise campaign. Donors, partners, and communities will unite to ensure the future success of surviving children and families of fallen Special Operators for the next 40 years and beyond. In doing so, weuphold our solemn commitment to all Special Operations Forces as they defend our freedom and security.How we raise funds: SOWF relies entirely on private donations to fulfill our mission and fund our programs. Donors’ generosity provides the pathway to academic success for students and continuity of support for surviving spouses.

Clayton M. Hutmacher, Major General, USA (Ret.)President & CEO Special Operations Warrior FoundationClay Hutmacher became the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation in September 2018. He was a career United States Army Officer and retired in 2018 having served over 40 years in uniform.  As an Army Special Operations Aviator, he commanded at every level during his three tours with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, where he served as the MH-60 Direct Action Penetrator platoon leader, company operations officer, executive officer and commander of 1st Battalion, Regimental Commander, and the Commanding General of the U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command.

Major General Hutmacher's last active duty assignment was the Director of Operations in the U.S. Special Operation Command, Tampa, FL. His previous assignment was as the deputy Commanding General of the United States Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, NC.A native of Wenatchee, Washington, he was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Management from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval Command and Staff College, and a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College.
