President Higgins visited the Ozanam House Resource Centre.

Ozanam House, operated by the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, offers training courses and support programmes for the local community, including childcare and education programmes.

The centre has been providing support to the community in the area for the past 15 years, and is named after Frederic Ozanam, the man who founded the St Vincent de Paul in 1833.

President Higgins hosted a reception to mark World AIDS Day, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of HIV Ireland, and to pay tribute to people and organisations working to prevent the spread of AIDS and assisting people living with HIV.

"Galway now has its focal meeting point back."

President Higgins unveiled a bronze replica of a statue of Pádraic Ó Conaire in Galway's Eyre Square.

The original statue of Pádraic Ó Conaire, made by sculptor Albert Power, was unveiled by Eamon de Valera on Easter Sunday 1935. Repaired in 1999, it was moved to the Galway City Museum.

The conference looked at the changing relationships between citizens and the State, and options for citizens to participate in democratic decision-making.

The President unveiled a sculpture entitled "The Book of Climate Bells"

The President has given world leaders, including Pope Francis, President Santos of Colombia and President of Peru Kuczynski, Climate Bells by Irish artist Vivienne Roche.

The bells signify the community effort that President Higgins believes is needed to limit climate change.

Vivienne Roche's Climate Bells were inspired by the address by President Higgins gave at the Summit of Conscience for Climate 2015, in which he said that “each citizen will be just as decisive in reaching the ambitious agreement mankind needs” as heads of state.
