Our community is more than just the people that show up on Sunday mornings. We are also called to be deeply embedded and active in the community around us. If SOJ were to disappear from the face of the earth, would our community even notice?

It’s easy to go about life on autopilot. However, when we come to the realization that you may be the only opportunity someone has to encounter the love of Christ that hour, day, week, month or ever, “random encounters,” can easily become, “divine appointments.”
In our culture, the phrase, “It’s better to give than receive,” rings contrary to what we absorb from our surroundings. In fact, one may say that the theme of our culture is to gain as much as you can because your value and worth can be found there. When our lives truly embody what it looks like to be generous in all things, only then can we begin to understand what “It’s better to give than receive,” means.

It’s easy to complain about things. It’s even easier to be ambivalent about the things happening in the world – but as Christians, we’re not called to be observers of the world. We’re called to shine Christ’s light - to be the hands and feet of Christ – radical change agents in the world that God loves so very much.

Last week we talked about the phrase, "SOME PEOPLE." This week we look at the word, "SOMEBODY." It's easy for us to say, "well, somebody should do this," or "somebody should really do that!" What we tend to forget is that we are somebody! In fact, God calls us to be more than just somebodies but God's very own hands and feet in the world. Empowered by that, there's no limit what the church (a whole bunch of called "somebodies") can do!
