Spiritual practice of listening. When we live segregated lives we find it difficult to listen to other perspectives which are unlike our own. Hence, without respecting a person’s voice there is no chance of building a relationship. Without spending time with God there is little chance of building a spiritual relationship. When I sit with people it takes only seconds to figure out they have not ventured far from their finite circles of friends and acquaintances. Many people can not make eye contact ( not because of their cultural upbringing but because they are uncomfortable speaking to a person from a different social construct). Hence all their friends and acquaintances are limited to people who look like them. They are never able to build relationships outside of their social constructs. God has created amazing stories in all people. What a shame when we limit ourselves by resisting the wisdom God has placed in diversity. It is like appreciating trees only, but tossing away vegetables, fruits, and even the protein filled nuts that grow on trees.
