This month's theme is Swedenborg and music.   Let's consider how music can awaken your soul -- into singing and dancing with God!

Dancing has always been a form of worship in some religious traditions..

Swedenborg talked of the life in heaven as filled with music, concerts, and singing. Music can be an experience of wholeness and connection:  with each other and with God.

I decided that this year, I'd like to send New Year's cards instead of Christmas cards. I've never sent New Year's cards, so didn't know what options were available.   I went to Amazon.com to see what they had.  One card really struck me.  It had two happy dogs running through the snow.  It said:

If we are ever to enjoy life, now is the time, not tomorrow or next year ... today should always be our most wonderful day.  - Thomas Dreier.

It made me think that the quote could be a great resolution for the New Year - a resolution to find some joy in each day.  I've been thinking this week about the sudden heart attack that took Carrie Fisher's life at 60, and then, the next day, her 84-year-olds Mother joining her after a stroke.  I've wondered what they would have done the day before if they had known it was to be their last day.  What would you do in that situation?

Joy to the World

Philip Van Doren Stern [1930-84] was a respected researcher and historical author, who wrote one of the best loved Christmas stories that he titled "The Greatest Gift:  A Christmas Tale."  He tried to have it published, but no one was interested. We know the story today as Frank Capra's motion picture, "It's a Wonderful Life,"  starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed.

This is a movie with deep spiritual themes. However, the messages are clearer in the original short story, "The Greatest Gift." It contains some important lessons for us in this 3rd week of Advent.
