Tamrat Layne is the former Prime Minister of Ethiopia. In the 1970’s he became part of a political student movement in Ethiopia. From 1977 to 1991 he and his friends raised an army of 150,000 which overthrew the communist dictator, Mengistu Haile. Tamrat became the Prime Minister of the new government and helped author the current constitution. He began studying free market economies and had a falling out with his friends. He was sent to prison in 1996 and his wife and children were exiled to a Kenyan refugee camp. After twelve years of solitary confinement and an amazing spiritual experience, he was released from prison in 2008. He and his wife live in Denver, Colorado today.
