Before you listen to episode 53 of the Dead Air Podcast we have one question for you. Who are you connected to? The question that resonates with our characters as Japan is hit with an unprecedented wave of inexplicable suicides. Seemingly happy and well adjusted people ending their own lives en masse have the police force baffled and grasping for explanations. Stranger still is the grisly clues being left behind. The horrific events can't seem to squash the national success of Dessert; a Japanese Idol band whose fun infectious tunes have everyone dancing but, of course these two things couldn't be connected, could they? Episode 52 is exactly what you think it is! We're back in the 80's and it feels like we never left. This time to take on one of Lydia's favourite movies from her childhood. The exploitation slasher Pieces! A seemingly normal college is under siege by a trench-coated ne'er-do-well with a penchant for carving up nubile co-eds with a chainsaw. An intense investigation goes underway to stop this madman before any more fall victim. Full of insane kills and inexplicable scenes this movie is as fun as it is inscrutable!

It may be April GHOULS day but this episode of Dead Air is no joke. Although, the movie is pretty funny I guess. Wes and Lydia discuss the triumphant return to horror for legendary director Sam Raimi with; Drag Me to Hell. In order to impress her boss for her next big promotion a young, kindhearted loan officers decides to get tough on an elderly woman way behind her mortgage payments. Desperate to stay in her home the old woman begs and pleads but going against her very nature young Christine says no. Angry and humiliated the woman curses her that in three days she will be dragged to hell to be devoured by the demon Lamia. Time is running out for Christine and she must figure out a way to reverse the curse but with her personal and professional life crumbling down around her it's hard to tell where life stops and hell begins. Sam Raimi is true to form in this outrageous, ooey gooey horror comedy.

We like to kick - streeeeeeetch - AND KICK we're 50! We hit this milestone in style with the Clive Barker Adapted Candyman. A grad student Helen is writing her thesis on urban legends and comes across a story about a ghostly figure with a hook for a hand that is known only as "Candyman" A vengeful legend born of a terrible tragedy that can be summoned to kill if only you dare to say his name five times, but, these are only stories right? As Helen gets closer to the truth people start dying and she loses her grip on time and reality itself. Has she gone insane or is something far more sinister at work?

This film holds a special place in Wes' heart and you'll hear all about it during the episode. Also, we dive deep in to our hosts past which is apparently filled with unsolved mysteries, irrational fears and something Lydia calls the "Skat Shack." It's an epic double stuffed episode that is sure to leave you wanting more! Raise your glasses, kids and cheers to another 50!

Sharpen your knife and strap on your combat boots because in episode 49 of Dead Air; Wes and Lydia dish out a review of 1981's The Prowler with military precision. In 1945 the war weary world was settling back down and men and women were returning home. What should have been a time of celebration turns to bloody murder. Now, decades later the killings start again by a man clad in WWII military gear. Special effects master Tom Savini is on full display in a movie that he considers is his best work. You have the right to remain silent...forever. In episode 48 of The Dead Air Podcast Wes and Lydia wave that right and talk about what many consider to be the last of the great 80's New York based slashers. On the mean streets of New York city life is cheap and a rash of murders is as common as seeing the Statue of Liberty itself. However, even in the city that never sleeps a killer over six feet tall dressed as a cop tends to grab attention. The citizens of New York are terrified of the wrong arm of the law and it's up to Jack and Theresa to clear their names and stop this Maniac Cop before he kills again. It's an all out war in the dirty rotten apple! Also Lydia shares with us the horrors of working in the hotel industry.

Coming hard on episode 47 of Dead Air. In this episode Wes and Lydia discuss the recent movie Condemned. A film strangely absent from horror outlets but all over mainstream media. A rich girl finds her way to her boyfriend's place in New York after she can no longer take the problems she faces at home. Little does she know that her man is squatting in a condemned building with a strange assortment of other people from the wrong side of the tracks. They become locked in against their will and must fight to escape as each one of their former roommates succumbs to a mysterious and violent infection. In episode 46 we get deadly serious and class the place up a little as we talk about the 1965 Roman Polanski film, Repulsion. The first in what would be dubbed the "Apartment Trilogy" which includes 1968's Rosemary's Baby and 1976's The Tenant. Polanski takes us through a quiet and subtle journey through two weeks of a woman's life. For many in Carol's life she just seemed quiet and perhaps a little detached. They could never understand the burning psychological trouble she faced on a daily basis. A world she finds so terrifying and repulsive that she eventually feels backed in to a corner and when it comes to fight or flight, Carol decides to fight! Also Wes and Lydia bare their souls to you, the listening audience as they discuss personal issues that can make traversing everyday life a little tricky. It's time to get in to your Jam-Jams as we continue to wade through the slasher boom of the late 70's - 80's. In honour of women in horror month we salute the female written and directed romp of The Slumber Party Massacre. A group of young ladies gather together for a night of pot, booze and pizza but what they get is a denim clad - drill waving maniac that's dead set on ruining their night. Love is funny that way. In episode 44 of DEAD AIR Wes and Lydia tackle one of the most notorious camp slashers in horror movie history. When people talk about twist endings there are few films that will blow your hair back like 1983's Sleepaway Camp. Angela and Ricky head off to summer camp. It should be a fun few weeks of swimming, boating and if you're lucky a little summer lovin'. Sadly, this place has an abundance of jerks who want nothing better than to torment poor Angela who just might be too shy for her own good. When campers start succumbing to a strange series of accidents it's clear that something just isn't quite right at Camp Arawak. Also in this episode; Wes gets derailed as he talks about learning to watch horror in a group and Lydia reveals a shocking truth from her past that will leave you as speechless as the film itself!
