Split Show: Disinformation and First Nations Opposition to Border Wall...

Listen Later

On this episode, we hear two very different critiques of the Trump administration. First, journalist McKay Coppins offers the latest on his reporting about disinformation in the 2020 Trump campaign.
Then, tribal law expert Richard Monette joins Esty in the studio for a discussion of the Tohono O’odham Nation’s opposition to Trump’s border wall and its destructive effects on tribal lands and sacred sites.
McKay Coppins is a staff writer at The Atlantic and the author of The Wilderness: Deep Inside the Republican Party’s Combative, Contentious, Chaotic Quest to Take Back the White House (Little, Brown and Company, 2015). His article “The Billion-Dollar Disinformation Campaign to Reelect the President” appears in the March 2020 print edition of The Atlantic with the headline “The 2020 Disinformation War.”

Richard Monette is a professor of law at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and director of the Great Lakes Indigenous Law Center. Previously, he served as chair of the Turtle Mountain Band of the Chippewa/Ojibwe/Anishinaabe Nation and Director of Congressional Affairs for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
