Split Show: Wuhan Coronavirus and Australian Aboriginal Land Rights

On today’s episode, we cover issues of international importance. First, UW–Madison virologist Kristen Bernard offers information on the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak in China and what it means for global public health.
Then, we turn our sights to Australia to learn about Aboriginal history, local response to this year’s bushfire crisis, and the fight for land justice with professor Heidi Norman from the University of Technology Sydney.
Kristen Bernard is a professor of virology in the Department of Pathobiological Sciences at the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s School of Veterinary Medicine. Her research focuses on emerging viruses, zoonotic diseases, and public health.
Heidi Norman is a professor of social and political sciences at the University of Technology Sydney, where she researches Australian Aboriginal political history and land justice. She is the author of What Do We Want?: A Political History of Aboriginal Land Rights in New South Wales (Aboriginal Studies Press, 2015) and a descendant of the Gomeroi people of northwestern New South Wales.
