A federal judge from Sioux City has denied an Iowa drug kingpin’s requests to delay his execution, which is scheduled for Friday. U.S. District Judge Leonard Strand says he would not intervene to delay Dustin Honken’s execution date due to the coronavirus pandemic. He said the Bureau of Prisons was in the best position to weigh the health risks against the benefits of carrying out the execution. Rescue crews responded to Little Sioux Park, in Correctionville Tuesday afternoon for a suspected drowning. Siouxland News/KMEG Television reports it happened around two this afternoon. A passerby assisted in the rescue and then performed CPR on a child. The child was flown by medical helicopter to MercyOne in Sioux City. New positive coronavirus cases in Iowa have jumped by the highest one-day increase since May as state health department data also reflects increasing hospitalizations and patients in intensive care. Known positive cases jumped by 744 during a 24-hour period that ended this morning. There were more than 33,800 positive cases this afternoon.
