Oof, y'all. This episode was really rough in that I wasn't at all surprised at how things went down with Josh. While I've frequently been impressed at the way Rebecca and Paula are able to sidestep the weird shit that happens to humiliate them, this wasn't one of those instances. Instead, they try very hard to behave as if what happened last episode was NBD, and Josh isn't buying it.
Then there's that weird ending where her fake boyfriend Trent is suddenly at Josh's apartment and I have NO IDEA WHAT IS HAPPENING!

These chapters are the ones in which Sameth and Lirael finally meet up with one another, and it's not exactly a meet cute, since they both do not trust one another and their pets don't even get along.
But first, Lirael has a run-in with Hedge, the creepy AF necromancer that almost got to Sameth and who already did get to poor Nicholas. This is the one thing that she and Sameth can bond over, and yet despite Sameth's apparent concern for his friend Nicholas, he's still low-key planning to chill at the Abhorsen house and let Lirael go on by her lonesome because he's just that big a traitor at this point. Come on, Sam. Don't do this.

I am really loving this show, and it's as much because of the interesting characters as because of the time travel and adventure elements. There are a lot of pieces of plotline that are coming directly from characters having very specific desires and reactions to things, and y'all know that's my jam.
This episode, we have an interesting intersection of two groups of travelers, and one of those groups has been here a lot longer and seen a lot of shit. And they seem to be mostly terrible. Things are wrapped up for the moment, but I won't be surprised to see them come back to torment our people later.

This is becoming one of my favorite books to cover merely due to the fact that I have no idea what's coming. I've got some little theories, of course, and there is a certain rhythm that stories like this tend to follow, but in this case the main character is so very...different, much more shrouded in mystery than other plucky young protagonists. What's interesting is that normally while there are plenty of secrets surrounding a character like this, usually they're not the ones keeping the secret. In this case, Nona is hiding a lot.

This episode of Veronica Mars is really interesting because I've been suspicious of what's going on with Mayor Goodman and I'm thinking that the show is beginning to stray towards a hint with the way they show him interacting with Logan. Is there something sinister there? It sure felt that way to me.
Then, of course, there's the main event which is the stadium getting demolished on top of Thumper. Honestly, it's a pretty dope reveal that I didn't even think of, and I'm not sorry for Thumper at ALL, but i'm really curious about what Veronica's reaction will be when she finds out the news.

These chapters contain a lot of forward movement in terms of the Ichani and of course, Stara. The Ichani are finally getting their support from their King, and the Kyralian magicians are getting the picture, slowly but surely, that there are going to be way more Sachakan magicians than they had anticipated.
Stara, on her end, is married to a dude who has absolutely no interest in having sex with her. Since the whole reason she agreed to this marriage (not that she had much choice) was to bear her father an heir and ensure the safety of her brother's wife, this isn't the best news.

These chapters are really interesting, which is surprising considering that they're mostly about people defending their theses in front of the Emperor. It doesn't sound too riveting in theory, but I found it to be compelling, not only because of the nature of the arguments themselves but also because of the background of the rituals and all of the intrigue in the court.
And then there's the looks back at the ways that Mimi (now Zomi) was educated, and the way her mind works. I'm dying to know what her thesis is.
