Part two of our trauma resuscitation discussion with local trauma surgeon Dr. Gilsdorf. We discuss the importance of time management and critical pre-hospital interventions. What needs to be done immediately? What can be done in route or deferred to the receiving facility? Additional discussion regarding current “hot topics” in prehospital care including blood products in the field, the role of TXA, preferred location for needle decompression, etc.
Management considerations for the traumatic arrest. Why they die, reversible etiologies, management strategies, and who do you transport.
Review of ionopressors including physiology of the shock states and appropriate use of epinephrine and dopamine as well as the introduction of norepinephrine to local protocols. Case examples and discussion regarding evidence for best use of each.
