Gonzaga’s basketball recruiting just got a twist as guard Skylar Wicks, who committed back in June, has decommitted and is back on the market—just days after landing transfer Xaivian Lee. Wicks, a seasoned scorer averaging nearly 18 points last season at Saint Francis, now has a seventh year of eligibility thanks to NCAA rules, making him a coveted late-season target. With a whirlwind college career across five schools and four states, his next move could shake up the roster picture.

Dishman Hills Conservancy, the state’s oldest land conservancy, has decided to stay independent after years of merger talks with the Inland Northwest Lands Conservancy — a move driven by strong community feedback from volunteers who’ve stewarded 3,200 acres for six decades. Though the merger is off, board president A.T. Miller says they’ve built valuable relationships and remain open to future collaborations as conservation costs rise and resources tighten.

Seahawks’ final preseason game against the Chiefs is a roster battle, not a showcase — starters sit out to stay healthy as Macdonald prioritizes depth over flash. Rookie Jadarian Price and backups skip the action, but newcomers like Trevon Diggs get crucial reps, proving his work ethic despite limited practice time. QB Sam Milroe takes the field for the full game, aiming to build rhythm after a shaky preseason. With Bud Clark out for the season, the defense scrambles to find safety answers. This is a make-or-break night for players fighting for the 53-man roster — wideouts, linemen, and defenders all have a chance to earn their spot before the regular season kicks off in two weeks.

In a raw, unforgettable moment captured by HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald broke down emotionally during a team meeting, honoring his late mentor O.J. Brigance — who fought ALS for 19 years. For 28 silent seconds, the room held its breath as players witnessed Macdonald’s vulnerability, leading to heartfelt support like “we’re family.” This powerful display revealed a leader beyond the X’s and O’s — one who builds trust through empathy and authenticity. As Macdonald enters his third season, he’s also fostering deeper bonds with “walk and talks” and intentional connection, echoing Brigance’s legacy of resilience. It’s a poignant reminder that leadership isn’t just about strategy — it’s about showing up, being real, and uniting a team in shared humanity.

The Seahawks just got a $9.6 billion makeover — the Paul G. Allen estate sold the team to the Khosla family, ending an iconic era and ushering in a new chapter. Veteran star Cooper Kupp, who sat out practice due to soreness (not controversy), praised Jody Allen’s leadership and expressed confidence in the Khoslas’ vision, saying they clearly understand what makes the Seahawks special. He trusts coach Mike Macdonald’s call to rest him for the team’s health — even as teammate Jake Bobo suffered a season-ending ACL tear during the same session. Kupp’s focus? Staying grounded in the “Seahawks way” as the franchise moves forward.

Kai Stewart is back in the ring for his seventh featherweight title defense at Fenway Park, taking on undefeated Harry Gigliotti in a battle that’s as much about swagger as strategy. After surviving a brutal March fight that left him temporarily blinded in one eye, Stewart’s philosophy has shifted—he’s ditching intricate game plans and letting his opponents scramble to figure him out. With his natural bare-knuckle instincts and deep understanding of the rules, he’s confident he’s got the edge. He’s even embracing the hostile Boston crowd, donning a Yankees jersey to soak up the boos. While Gigliotti brings professional boxing pedigree and height, Stewart sees his own relentless pace and endurance as key weapons—and suspects his rival’s footwork might be sluggish, like molasses. No knockouts yet, but he’s dreaming of a decisive finish. Beyond this fight, Stewart’s eyes are on a 10-fight win streak that could earn him equity in BKFC—and he’s treating this title defense not as a shield, but as a statement: he’s still the king of bare-knuckle boxing.

A controversial Trump-era deal sees German energy giant RWE cashing in $1.2 billion to ditch offshore wind leases in three states — only to funnel the money into fossil fuels or nuclear projects, sparking outrage over political influence and a major donor’s role in shaping energy policy.

A Marine One helicopter came perilously close to a passenger jet on August 4, sparking safety concerns after the NTSB revealed communication failures between the crew and air traffic control. Despite attempts to reach controllers via backup channels, the issue persisted — echoing similar problems just days earlier when Marine One admitted “spotty” comms. Though FAA fixes, including antenna relocation and procedural changes, appear to have resolved the glitch, the incident reignites alarms over airspace safety, especially after a deadly January 2025 midair collision near Reagan Airport forced permanent helicopter restrictions.
