It' s February 2021 & the skit "VALENTINE'S IS COMING, WHERE'S YOUR BOYFRIEND?" is living rent-free in my head. I decided to do a quick slow mix filled with sweet-nothings and all the feel good vibes associated with romance. It's not conventional, it's not cheesy but it's fun.

It's been the longest year in the history of long years. We finally made it to the close of the calendar and in South African fashion, Dezemba is more than just a month - it's a mood, a lifestyle, a never-ending festival! Here's my contribution to the festive spirit in Africa and all over the world. Take me with you to the house parties you go to, take me on the road and play me in the house when you don't feel like socialising. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Love, the African Powerpuff Girl

As I continue my journey of discovery where African music is concerned, it gets harder and harder to put descriptions on the diverse sounds we produce as Africans. While the world over labels almost anything with an "African beat" or rhythm as afrobeats, I find that this mix is better classified as an afro-fusion as it has notes of African pop but leans on the dance element that (tribal) house music gives us. In addition to that, it carries heavy notes of indigenous instrumentation all the way. How do you put labels on the music of soaring African spirits and voices? You try as hard as you can not to ❤️ Tune in, enjoy and drink from this cup of energy with music from Algeria, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa.

I asked my online community to share their favourite afrobeat tracks with me & I turned everyone's selection into a special mix to keep us company during this uncertain time for many.

My title, "LOCdown" is stylised to play on a natural hair grooming process known as the L O C (liquid-oil-cream) method which is used to moisturise hair. This mix is my gift of nourishment to the African soul as it is made up of a community of selectors. I just put it together. ❤️
