The Cowboys came up with a 10-point win over Fresno State last night with a 92-82 point victory in the Arena Auditorium.

The Cowboys bounced back from the tough loss Saturday to CSU, outscoring the Bulldogs in the second half 50 to 42.  Five Cowboys scored in double figures.

Wyoming is now 14-12 overall, 5-10 in conference play. Fresno falls to 12-14. The Bulldogs are 6-9 in the Mountain West.

The 15 three pointers by the Cowboys were the most since hitting 17 triples last season at home, also against Fresno State.

The Bulldogs made the contest a three-point game with less than 10-minutes to play. Khaden Bennett went on a 5-0 run with a triple and a dunk to push Wyoming’s lead  to 73-65. Bennett finished the night with 17 points.

The Cowboys went on a 6-0 run at the end of the first half to take a two-point lead. Head Coach Sundance Wicks kept it simple at the break.

Wyoming will hit the road for back-to-back games, beginning in Phoenix against Grand Canyon on Saturday night. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. Boise State is set for next Tuesday.  We’ll have both games here on Bigfoot 99.

CSU stayed in the game at the free throw line, Saturday afternoon, then pulled away late in the second half for a 79-68 win over Wyoming.

The Cowboys led the Rams 59-50 at the 10:53 mark of the second half. CSU then built momentum, using the free throw line, to work their way back into the game. The Rams took the lead, 64-66 at the at the 5:10 mark, and held on for the win.

The Cowboys only scored 28 points in the second half, after leading by three at the half.

The Rams used the free throw line to seal the win. The Wyoming broadcast team of Keith Kelley and Kevin McKinney described the game through brown-and-gold-colored glasses.

The Cowboys got into trouble, missing 14 of 15 shots down the stretch. Sophomore Damarion Dennis led the Cowboys with 21 points. Khaden Bennett added 13.

Wyoming shot 41 percent from the floor—27 of 66. The Pokes went 9 of 29 from three, 31%. The Pokes shot five of eight from the free throw line.

The Cowboys return home to battle Fresno State at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night. Bigfoot 99 will be on the air at 6 with the pregame show.

The Wyoming Cowgirls took care of business on Wednesday night at UNLV, knocking down 16-three pointers in an 82-72 win over the Lady Rebels.

Wyoming stayed aggressive from start to finish, knocking down the most three-point shots in school history, and the most since 2021.

Jane Rumpf made a career-high, six three pointers. Henna Sandvik made five. Malena Peterson had four. They shot 43 percent from deep in the first quarter, 55.5 percent in the second quarter, and 44.5 percent in the third. Wyoming cooled off in the fourth quarter, but the damage was done, as the Cowgirls improve to 6-9 in Mountain West play. Wyoming is now 9-15 overall.

The highlight reel started early and rolled throughout the first half.

Pedersen led UW and tied a season-high with 26 points on the night as the Cowgirls picked up their first road win in Las Vegas in five seasons.

Wyoming lost to UNLV last month in Laramie 82-53. Last night’s turnaround performance comes after the Cowgirls lost at CSU by 29 points on Saturday.

The Cowgirls return home to host Boise State at 2 p.m., Saturday in Laramie.

The ending of Saturday night’s basketball was so on edge; the Wyoming broadcast network failed as the Cowboys fell by a bucket inside the Arena Auditorium.

Utah State had just missed a free throw. The Cowboys had a chance to tie or win the game when the radio broadcast went off the air.

Radio fans were greeted with ten seconds of dead air followed by about 90-seconds of the “stand-by” music Learfield Sports runs leading into a sports broadcast. When the game was over, Keith Kelly and Kevn McKinney returned.

Playing shorthanded, the Cowboys fought back against the Aggies’ 11-point lead in the final six minutes.  Demarion Dennis led Wyoming with 20 points on the night. Naz Meyer had 19, including a layup followed by an extra point from the line to make the score 85-83.

Power inside the AA went out a few moments later– or at least to the broadcast equipment. When they came back, the Cowboys had suffered a heartbreaking loss.

Wyoming falls 13-11 overall, 4-9 in conference play.

With the win in Laramie, Utah State improves 20-3 overall, 11-2 in the Mountain West.

The Cowboys, down one scholarship player, were a nine-point underdog headed into Saturday’s matchup.

The Cowboys will return to action on Saturday with a Valentine’s Day matchup against Colorado State. Tip is set for 2 p.m. at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colo.

Utah State and San Diego State remain tied at the top of the Mountain West Conference with 11-2 records.

The New Mexico Lobos came to Laramie on Wednesday night and delivered a 58-51 loss to Wyoming. The Cowgirls have dropped two straight and fall to 5-8 in conference play.

The Lobos improved to 8-4 as they pull off a season sweep of the regular season series with Wyoming.

The Cowgirls out-rebounded 34-to-28 and found their three-point too late in the game to mount a winning comeback. Wyoming was down 29-19 at the half.

Wyoming committed 13 turnovers, three more than New Mexico.

The Border War is up next for the Cowgirls. Colorado State is looking to fill Moby Arena and is aiming for the largest home crowd of the season and in CSU women’s basketball history, on Saturday.

CSU has dubbed it the “Pack Moby” game. Tickets are priced at $1. Looking at their history, two of the top three best-selling games in Fort Collins were against the Cowgirls. Tip Saturday is set for 2 p.m.

Cowboy basketball: Wyoming fell to San Diego State 72-63 in an unentertaining game on the West Coast Tuesday night.

The Cowboys got to within three points in the first half, but the Aztecs closed 10-2 to seal the game early.

Wyoming got down 16 points early when the score was 40-to-24. Khaden Bennett led the Cowboys in scoring with 14 points for double figures in back-to-back games. Damarion Dennis added 14 points for his third game in double-figures in the last four games.

The Aztecs were led by Reese Waters with 23 points on the night. He was 6-of-10 from the field and added nine free throws. Miles Byrd added 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds. The San Diego State broadcast team put it this way near the end of the game:

The Cowboys return to action on Saturday hosting Utah State in the Arena-Auditorium at 6 p.m. Saturday’s contest will be a “Gold Out,” as fans are encouraged to wear gold to the game.

The Wyoming Cowboys came out hot on Saturday night inside the Arena Auditorium in a 68-57 buzzer-to-buzzer Border War win over CSU.

Junior guard Khaden Bennet started the game with back-to-back three-point buckets and the Cowboys never trailed. Bennet finished the night with a double-double in front of nearly 6,400 Wyoming fans.

Cowboys Head Coach Sundance Wicks described the Wyoming home crowd as inspiring.

Bennet opened the game with three three-point shots in the first four minutes. #3 recorded a season-high 22 points and tied a season-high with 10 rebounds for Wyoming’s first double-double of the season. He also hit a career-high six three-pointers tying a season best for a Cowboy. He also added three steals in the contest.

Coach Wicks summed it up this way:

Bennet, whose dad was inside the Arena Auditorium Saturday night described his night as being in a Zen-like bubble—in the zone all night long.

The Pokes return to action on Tuesday with a trip to San Diego State in a contest slated for a 9 p.m. Mountain Time start.

Leland Walker added 10 points and a team-high four helpers. Adam Harakow added nine points and five rebounds.

The Wyoming Cowboys fell to Utah State 94 to 62 on Wednesday night. The Aggies started the game with a 13-0 run and followed up with a 9-2 run to open the second half. The Cowboys had few answers for Utah State’s deadly,  three-point shooting.

With the loss, Wyoming falls to 12-9 overall, 3-7 in conference play. Utah State improves to 17-3 overall, 8-2 in Mountain West play. It was the seventh straight win by the Aggies over the Cowboys.

In the post-game show, Head Coach Sundance Wicks had few words to say after the defeat.

Wyoming announcer Keith Kelley was caught off-guard by the brevity of Coach Wicks, following the loss. As Kevin McKinney noted, that was the shortest interview in history with the Cowboys’ Head Coach.

Naz Meyer returned to action last night. The freshman hit two-threes early on.

That was as close as Wyoming would get for the rest of the game.

Utah State responded with a 12-2 to put the game away early. The Aggies finished the game with 13 three pointers and shot 55 percent from the field on the night.

Leland Walker was Wyoming’s leading scorer with 24 points. Naz Meyer added 12 on his return to action.

The Cowboys return home for the first edition of the Border War on Saturday in a 7:30 p.m. start against Colorado State.

Wyoming Head football Coach Jay Sawvel is taking a big salary cut and rolling the money into a revenue fund to help boost player recruitment.

Sawvel made the announcement over the weekend announcing the hiring of new Offensive Coordinator Christian Taylor.

Sawvel said he gives his own money to the program because he wants UW to succeed, and Cowboy Football is the engine that makes all the departments run.

Sawvel’s $125,000 gift to the university will be allocated to revenue sharing efforts. The football coach also handed over a portion of his annual retention bonus, another roughly $100,000, to ensure he could retain certain staffers as Wyoming’s budget-crunch tightens in Laramie.

Sawvel is entering the third season of his five-year, $5.8 million contract. His base salary is roughly $1.1 million, excluding bonuses.

Longtime UW athletics director Tom Burman said that Sawvel’s gift to the university was the coach’s idea. “He cares about his staff and his players,” Burman said

Wyoming beat San Jose State 62-66 inside the Arena Auditorium.

With the win, the Pokes are 12-2 overall. Wyoming snapped a four-game losing streak and matched their overall win total from last year.

The Cowboys battled for the win. The Spartans were deadly from three-point range, hitting 11. Wyoming only hit two from beyond the arc. The Cowboys stayed in the game at the free-throw line, shooting 89 percent from the line with 24 makes.

The Spartans hit one of their three-point shots at 1:33 to make it a two-point game, 60-62.

As time was running out with the game on the line, San Jose State turned the ball over for the first time in the second half.

Leland Walker iced the win with two made free throws as time ran out to make the score 66-62

With the win, Wyoming improved to 3-6 in conference play and have 10 home wins on the season.

Sophomore Demarion Dennis was the leading scorer with 16-points off the bench. With the game in the balance, Dennis helped the Cowboys regain the lead on a defense-to-offense play.

Head Coach Sundance Wicks was proud of the way the team responded to adversity in the game and never gave up. “Growth points,” is how Wicks described Wyoming’s ability to overcome adversity.

After two home games, the Cowboys return to action on Wednesday with a trip to Utah State for a 7 p.m. start in a contest on CBS Sports Network.
