While everyone wants baseball in 2027, we can’t trust the games’ owners and players to prevent a lockout. There have been eight labor disputes in the game’s history, a testament to the ego of the games players and owners.

I hope they realize playing games next year is most important, not cash. Otherwise, America’s Pastime will be dead and buried, and both the owners and their players will share responsibility.

Most of us will never play in an NFL stadium; still, our taxes go to build, say, the Buffalo Bills new one. Studies have found no economic benefit for the average person from these ventures. Instead, they benefit only the Robert Krafts and Joe Burrows of the world.

Al Pacino’s Inches Speech spoke about the importance of unity to a fractured team. It also perfectly captured the consequences of loss as you get older, like losing your innocence, like every Gen Zer, millennial, Gen Xer, and Baby Boomer has. We need to heed Pacino’s warning the country needs to heal and unite, or die as die as individual parties.

For generations, sports has involved codes of conduct . In the NFL, teams apply Mosaic Law to situations involving dirty hits. In hockey, you didn’t dare cheap shot Wayne Gretzky. Modern politics needs codes of conduct as well.

Otherwise, things can only get worse for the country.

Malik Beasley and Ed Davis disgraced the NBA getting arrested on betting charges, but it’s equally disgraceful we’ve legalized betting in America. Betting is addictive, of course, and can ruin your finances and mental health. Stuart Scott changed the face of sportscasting, true. He also is a painful reminder cancer can strike anyone. Having seen two people come down with cancer in my family, I know a cure for cancer is more than worth the research dollars.

We can’t afford to lose any more people to this illness.
