Mandy Montoya, the State Championship winning Head Coach of Penasco High School, sat down with Host Eddie Morelos on the Sports-N-More Podcast to talk about the journey to hoist the Blue Trophy. The Penasco Panthers were seeded No. 6 in the State Basketball Tournament (New Mexico, Class 2A) and eventually won the title after defeated No. 4 Tularosa, 39-36 in the title game. The Sports-N-More Podcast with Host Eddie Morelos attended the 12th edition of the Big Time Hoops Showcase in Las Cruces, N.M. on March 30-31 and connected with various players and coaches.  Morelos was able to connect with a State Champion out of New Mexico! Ms. Audri Wright of Sandia High School helped the Matadors raise the Blue Trophy! The Matadors (in the Championship game) rallied from 12 down late in the third quarter. In a pressure-packed tie game with rival Farmington, it was Matadors junior guard Audri Wright who hit the shot of the season for Sandia, a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 25.5 seconds remaining.

That was the game-winner for No. 2 Sandia, which beat No. 3 Farmington 61-58 in a thrilling Class 5A semifinal showdown at the Pit.
