Catalan rising star Paula Blasi admits her first Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift was a tougher challenge than anticipated. This experience could reshape her approach for future races.
Blasi, 23, has already claimed victories at the Vuelta Femenina, Amstel Gold Race, and Volta a Catalunya in her debut season, setting high expectations for her performance in the Tour, where she finished fifth overall. Initially unclear about her role within a strong UAE Team L'IMAD lineup, Blasi faced pressure as the team focused on defending Elisa Longo Borghini's position. However, the stress dissipated as the race progressed.
Despite the challenges, her team secured the top spot in the team classification, with Longo Borghini finishing third and Domenica Włodarzyck seventh. Blasi, who led the BYR ranking for the first four days, reflected on the steep learning curve, noting that positioning is crucial. "From day 1, you're going all out, full gas," she stated, emphasizing the need for better placement to conserve energy.
Blasi acknowledges that while she aspires to win the Tour, she realizes she needs to improve. "I've got homework to do," she said, optimistic about her future performances. The lessons learned this year will undoubtedly shape her strategy moving forward.
