Pennsylvania is home to more than 83,000 miles of streams, many of which hold respectable native trout populations.  In the past decade, many high rain events have devastated creek channels thus affecting food webs and trout populations.  In addition to weather, there are a number of point and non-point pollution sources that continue to impair cold water streams.  This week we interview fisheries biologist, Clayton Good, who has participated in monitoring “unassisted “streams and patterns of native fish in North Central Pennsylvania.

Clayton has spent the last 8 years collecting data with state and private organizations like Trout Unlimited.  In that time his passion for the sport of fishing has only grown!  We tap into a bit of his working career as a fisheries biologist, the hurdles that our streams may be facing, and of course, fishing!  Passion drives persistence and he has not struggled to find a way to land trout with his fly rod, whether it be in stocked creeks or the many mountain tributaries that hold native brook trout.  Tune in for real time information as well as fishing stories and strategy!

The first event of the Pro Walleye Series of the H2H fishing tournament wrapped up last week here on the Detroit River.  Lee brings on past guest and walleye professional, Joe Okada who finished in the top 8 to discuss his experience fishing the new format and how he had to change his plan of attack daily to move on to the next round day after day.  The event was extremely exciting to follow and Joe discusses how the pressure of a live streamed event helps sharpen his skills in ways he never had practiced in the past.  H2H fishing tournament is making a big splash in the walleye tournament world and is a format that many hope is here to stay.  Enjoy the podcast with Lee and Joe.

This week on the show Jeff discusses his experiences with kayak fishing.  We discuss different types of kayaks and the features each has that are good for fishing.  Jeff talks about all the factors that went into his decision to purchase each of his kayaks and what features he wishes his kayak had, now that he has been put a few seasons in fishing from it.  He also talks about how comfort plays a large role in being successful while fishing from a kayak, as there is much less room to adjust your position inside a small boat.  Jeff also discusses how he manages his tackle box and other gear all while attempting to not lose anything into the water.  Another consideration that needs to go into the decision to fish from a kayak is the boat traffic on the lake because motorized boats will create waves that can be difficult to navigate while fishing.  If you have ever wondered what it is like to fish from a kayak or wanted to hear from someone who has experience doing it, this episode will answer most if not all your questions.
