Welcome back to SportsVoice with Mike Formisano as Week 1 of the NFL season comes to a close with Monday Night Football in Kansas City.
Mike breaks down the Chiefs’ win over the Denver Broncos, including the biggest question coming into the night: how healthy were Patrick Mahomes and Bo Nix? Mahomes answers those questions quickly, while Kansas City’s running game takes center stage behind a huge performance from Kenneth Walker.
From there, Mike looks at what the result could mean for the AFC West, why Kansas City may be right back in the middle of the AFC playoff picture, and why Denver could have a much tougher road ahead than expected.
He also checks back in on the rest of the league after Week 1, including the Giants, Jets, Bills, Ravens, Eagles, Bears and 49ers, before touching on the latest from Major League Baseball and the NHL.
The first week of the NFL season is officially in the books, and some teams already look very different from what we expected.

Welcome back to SportsVoice with Mike Formisano for a look ahead at the 2026–27 NHL season and the three teams at the center of New York-area hockey: the Rangers, Islanders and Devils.
Mike breaks down the biggest questions facing each club as the new season approaches. Can the Rangers rebound under Mike Sullivan after a disappointing year? Do they have enough depth on defense behind Adam Fox and Igor Shesterkin? And can their new additions help push them back into the playoff picture?
On Long Island, the focus turns to the Islanders, Matthew Schaefer’s rise, the future of the captaincy, the development of the team’s younger players, and whether Peter DeBoer can get more out of a roster that has spent years hovering around the playoff bubble.
Then it is on to the Devils, where Jack Hughes, Luke Hughes, Nico Hischier, Jesper Bratt and company give New Jersey plenty of offensive firepower, but questions remain in goal. Mike also touches on the possibility of Quinn Hughes eventually joining his brothers in New Jersey and what that could mean down the road.
With an expanded 84-game schedule, a tough Metropolitan Division and plenty of uncertainty across all three franchises, which New York-area teams are built to make a run at the Stanley Cup Playoffs?
The puck is almost ready to drop.

Welcome back to SportsVoice with Mike Formisano for a look at the Major League Baseball playoff race and the final Grand Slam of the tennis season.
Mike starts with the Subway Series between the Yankees and Mets, including the 25th anniversary of September 11 and the role both New York baseball teams played in helping the city recover in 2001. He also revisits some unforgettable moments from that postseason before turning back to the present-day race.
From there, Mike breaks down where the Yankees, Rays, Red Sox and the rest of the American League stand with only two weeks left in the regular season. Can New York catch Tampa Bay? What would a Yankees–Red Sox Wild Card matchup look like? And how dangerous could the Rays be in October?
He also checks in on the National League playoff picture, including the Braves, Phillies, Brewers, Dodgers and Padres, and looks ahead to what could be a wide-open postseason.
Then it is off to Flushing Meadows for the U.S. Open men’s final, where Ben Shelton’s run comes to an end against Alexander Zverev. Mike looks at Shelton’s tournament, the state of American tennis, and whether the next generation can finally produce another men’s Grand Slam champion.
Baseball is heading toward October, tennis has wrapped its Grand Slam season, and the fall sports calendar is only getting busier.
