Spotlight: Sacramento

Welcome to our deep dive into East Sacramento, also known as East Sac, a historic and sought-after neighborhood just east of downtown Sacramento. Join us as we explore a community that began its residential development in the 1890s and was officially annexed into the city in 1911.

In this episode, we'll uncover what makes this area so special, from its central location near Midtown and the State Capitol to its strong sense of community. Discover McKinley Park, a 32-acre hub for recreation, complete with a library, tennis courts, and a garden and arts center.

We'll take a special tour of the "Fabulous Forties," an enclave renowned for its architectural beauty and community spirit. This historic area, which rose to prominence in the 1920s and 30s, features grand homes in styles like Tudor, Colonial Revival, and California Bungalow on spacious lots. The Fab Forties gained national recognition when Governor Ronald Reagan and his wife Nancy resided at 1341 45th Street. The neighborhood also captured modern hearts as the location of the famous "Blue House" in Greta Gerwig's film Lady Bird.

Learn about the area's history, including the story of East Lawn Memorial Park, which opened in 1904 on what was once a country farm. We'll also touch on the vibrant community life, from the elaborate Christmas light displays in the Fab Forties, to the local shops and cafes.

Tune in to learn why East Sac's blend of history, stunning architecture, and community focus makes it one of Sacramento's most prized neighborhoods
