  • Episode 72 - Chelsey Tucker (Artist)
This episode of the podcast is with the one and only Chelsey Tucker. Chelsey has a truly amazing story...here is the cliff note version ________________________________________________________________ "You don't need sight to have a vision." – Chelsey Tucker While she may not be able to see the vibrant colors of her stunning paintings, this does not stop Chelsey Tucker from sharing her beautiful collection that will debut at the O Gallery on April 18th. Diagnosed with a very rare autoimmune disease, Neuromyelitis Optica or NMO, which leaves her color blind and visually impaired, Chelsey uses emotion to feel the painting while creating. She paints as an expression of how she sees the world. This is a notion that is resonating directly with her rapidly growing clientele. Chelsey has been drawn to the creative arts since she was a child, singing and songwriting for several years. But it wasn't until 2018 that she joined the arts community professionally. She began by posting photos of her paintings to her social media accounts, sharing only with family members and close friends. Falling in love with her paintings, her friends and family encouraged her to share these gifts with the world. Thus, kick starting her quick rise within the Nashville scene as an in-demand artist. "Do not let your circumstances derail your success. You can discover new gifts." NMO doesn't just affect Chelsey's vision. During periods of relapse, those with NMO often lose feeling in their hands. While this may seem like a deterrent and a provocation to stop altogether, this is not an option for Chelsey. She needs to create. Her subjects and methods may change depending on her symptoms, but this certainly does not prevent her from maintaining the same level of creativity and professionalism for which she is known. When holding a brush is no longer an option, she will use a technique involving her fingers directly on the canvas and a special pouring method. "Elements of creativity are required in order to establish new norms, especially with how this disease progresses." Residing just outside of Nashville TN with her husband and their 5 children, Chelsey prioritizes family above all things. She derives a great deal of inspiration from her family and they support her every step of the way. She is also a believer in giving back to the community. Proceeds from gallery sales will benefit the Guthy Jackson Foundation, which donates to those afflicted with NMO. Contributions can be made directly to guthyjacksonfoundation.org. ________________________________________________________________ Such an incredible person that has overcome so much and has a truly remarkable talent in her art. Chelsey's outlook on life and her overall energy is so inspiring. Definitely an amazing example of everything we are about here at Spread The Positive. She has some amazing insights on the typical podcast topics and lives out our mission better than most. Very grateful to have crossed paths with Chelsey and look forward to collaborating with her in the future. Be sure to check her out on Instagram and Facebook @chelseytuckerart. • Episode 70 - April Kirby (Crest Cafe)
This episode of the podcast is with April Kirby. April is the founder/operator of Crest Cafe, a donation based coffee shop in Nashville, TN. This excerpt is taken from the Crest Cafe website (crestcoffeehouse.com) that explains it much better than I can... "We are Nashville's first donation based coffee house providing a unique take on the traditional coffee scene by using locally roasted artisanal coffee and espresso to change our community one sip at a time. 90% of the profit goes directly to the community, additionally each quarter we partner with a missional organization to help raise both awareness and funds for causes in Nashville and beyond. Our goal is to brew more than just good coffee, we want to brew up change and community too. WHAT EXACTLY IS DONATION BASED? It is exactly what it sounds like-- instead of telling you the price of your coffee, tea, etc you tell us. Give what you can/ what you feel. We want CCH to be a place where EVERYONE feels welcome and where we make a difference. 100% of our profits go straight back to making positive changes in Nashville. So come on, join us in making a difference, all you have to do is order a coffee." It is easy to see why April and her mission aligns so well with everything we are about here at Spread The Positive. April has a really incredible story that led her to start Crest Cafe. She has a servant's heart and is passionate about making a difference in her community and beyond. She is definitely a really great example of everything we are looking to showcase on this podcast. April has some really great examples of "what is going right", applicable tips on maintaining a positive mindset and much more on the typical podcast topics. Big thanks to April for being on the podcast and all she is doing to Spread The Positive. Please check out Crest Cafe of Instagram @crestcafenashville and at their location off Wedgewood in Nashville at 1601 Martin St. Nashville, TN.
