We had the thrill of speaking with Crystal Rountree, Executive Director of Teach for America, Charlotte-Piedmont Triad, where she sets the regional vision that drives meaningful impact for students.
We dig into:
- How Crystal is taking over our screens and pages with features in a movie and two books
- Her experience as a TFA Corps member in Atlanta, and how an innovative approach to goal setting led to incredible results
- Her experiences attending mostly white schools growing up in Austin and then a HBCU in Atlanta, and how these experiences led to her "superpower"
Limitless, TFA-CPT's celebration of 15 years in Charlotte is currently rescheduled for 8/29. Details here.

Thanks for joining for another episode of the #SquarePizzaPod.
We had the joy of speaking with Munro Richardson, Executive Director of Read Charlotte, a community initiative that unites families, educators and community partners to improve children’s literacy from birth to third grade. Reading proficiency at third grade is a critical predictor of school, career and life success. Children who are not reading at grade level by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school. Munro, a self-described “lover of coffee, books, and data” has held this role since the organization’s launch in 2015.
We dig into:
- Munro's perfect food (spoiler, not pizza)
- Why he thinks of parents as customers
- The groundbreaking tech that might just act as the driverless cars for education
- Munro's favorite read of the moment (now required reading for the whole Read Charlotte team)
