With her recently released third album Room for the Moon alluding to Japanese music and Soviet children’s movies and TV shows, Moscow-based pop experimentalist Kate NV has cemented her position as a compelling and singular voice in songwriting today. For the first instalment of the Sreda mix series, she crafts an hour of whimsical pop songs and angular off-kilter instrumentals. “I called this mix ‘The Crouching Tigger 2’. It is a combination of guitar madness and delicate pop. Tigger, though a goofy character, is still a tiger. So is the music in this mix – at times it's completely outlandish and harsh, but still extremely gentle. And there’s also my favourite part from Prokofiev’s Scythian Suite, which goes well with the score from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Why 2? To add a little bit of mystery, of course”.
