Sri Adishankaracharya’s Nirvana Shatkam Meditative chant. Lyrics in English & Devanagari

Listen Later

Vedanta or the later part of the Vedas, deals with the enquiry about the true nature of man. It gives us a clear perspective of life and it’s meaning. Vedantha has been interpreted by many realised Gurus in many ways. There are mainly 6 Darshanas, 6 paths laid out by various gurus over many centuries.

Sri Adishankaracharya, was the proponent of the Advaita Vedantha , the philosophy of Non-Duality. This shloka encapsulates the complete thought of Advaita Vedanta into 6 verses. By themselves, the cryptic verses may seem simple, but the true meaning of the verses are lost if one does not have a prior knowledge of the subject. This chant is used only as an offering to Lord Shiva, but in it’s meaning, it shows that one is aware that one is essentially Shiva, the Auspicious One.. This knowledge can be truly attained only upon realisation of the Self, but it is possible to get an idea through enquiry and the guidance of a guru. I have tried to simplify the meaning of each verse with some basic explanation through a series of episodes.
