If At First You Don’t Succeed…
Now, on to the meat of things. In the last episode, we talked about success and that success is a perspective. It’s whatever you define it to be. Whether that’s a nice house and car, making lots of money, having lots of free time or even just having a beautiful vegetable garden. You define your own success. The challenge a lot of us have is that we TRY for that success but then when we don’t succeed, we get frustrated and either try the same thing again or we give up. And giving up causes all sorts of negative self talk. So I’m going to suggest a solution.
Try Differently
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again doesn’t work. When we try again and don’t succeed again, we throw in the towel and enter victim mode. We say, “Well, I tried,” shrug our shoulders and thing “Oh well.” NO!!! If you don’t succeed and you try the exact same thing over again, you’ll get the SAME result…no success! That’s the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Well I suggest that if at first you don’t succeed, TRY DIFFERENTLY!
Recipe for Success
Just because you follow a “recipe for success,” doesn’t mean that you’ll be successful as YOU define success. For example, if you follow a recipe for the perfect chocolate chip cookie, and you follow that recipe EXACTLY, it’s entirely possible that the cookies won’t be YOUR exact perfect cookie. Maybe they are too soft or too hard or too sweet. So you have some choices. Make the EXACT same recipe again and get the same not perfect cookie for you, OR you change or tweak the recipe! And that’s what I mean by try differently. You may add some extra vanilla or change it for almond extract or bake them longer or shorter. You try differently on your quest to find the recipe that works for YOU!
Following a recipe doesn’t always mean success because success is a perspective, it’s YOUR perspective, YOUR definition. So if something doesn’t work out for you, try differently. You haven’t failed. You’ve learned what to do or not to do, how to be or not to be, or how to act or not to act the next time in order to move toward success as you define it.
