The Church is called by Jesus to be the preservation (salt) of the earth and the illumination (light) of the world. Being salt is not always a pleasant role, as the Church rubs salt, with its restraining properties, into the wounds of a broken world. Shining like a city on a hill is a more positive role, but in the end, the world often defaults to darkness.
Yet, the hope of the world is found in the visible Body of Christ providing a restraining, healing and illuminating presence to the world. May we shine like stars, holding out the Word of life.
Father Michael unpacks these thoughts in his most recent sermon.
