"We need the consolation of God, we really do. We need the peace of God. We really do," Father Perry D. Leiker, pastor, tells us for our celebration of the vigil Mass of the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God. "And we need to really believe that somehow — being church, being a family of faith, being a communion of love, with all of our sinfulness, all of our inperfections — that, as we come together and celebrate these things that we hold dear in our lives, that somehow, God, you are carrying us through all of this and bringing us to new life. As we begin this new year — my prayer for you, for me, for all of us, for our world — is that we come to a deeper sense of our worth, of the goodness that we are and that we have. [That] the new year always brings new blessings and new hope; and that we would gather in a way that would open our hearts, our lives, ourselves, to the presence of God in our life in a really powerful way."

"And, quite frankly, that's what religion is about. There's something more than just coming to Mass. And there's something that just receiving communion. That's just the beginning."
