By Father Perry D. Leiker, pastor
"Fasting should change our hearts. It should make us contrite and humble, like the psalm says. It should make us appreciate things more," Father Perry tells us for the second episode of our Lenten podcast. "If you don't eat chocolate, or smoke, or have your daily beer ... and then you hate it, and you're miserable ... God doesn't want us miserable; he just doesn't. He wants us contrite, humble, and open-hearted. Now, does this mean you shouldn't fast during Lent? I'm not saying that; it's a good practice. But if you do it, if we do it, we should do it in a way that makes our heart be more loving."
