What does a Black jazz musician with over 200 KKK robes have to do with the Good Samaritan? More than you might think. This week we open with the remarkable story of Daryl Davis — a believer whose commitment to God led him into conversations most people would never have, and whose sustained friendship has seen more than 200 people walk away from white supremacy without a single argument being won. From there we go to Luke 10, where a lawyer asks Jesus who his neighbor is — not out of genuine curiosity, but because he wants a boundary, a category, a list of people he can legitimately exclude. Jesus refuses to draw that line. Instead of answering the question the man wanted answered, He answers the question the man needed answered — shifting the focus from who qualifies for your love to what kind of person you are called to be. Along the way we look at why the priest and Levite had a legitimate reason to walk past the wounded man, what the Shammai school of thought has to do with misplaced priorities, and why loving your neighbor as a commitment to God is not the same thing as affirming everything your neighbor does. The lawyer wanted a circle. Jesus gave him a posture. Go and do likewise.

Tracing the story back to Genesis, we explore what was really at stake in the garden, what the serpent was offering, and why the loss of the tree of life may not be punishment alone, but protection.

Along the way, we wrestle with a difficult but important idea: in a broken world, death can function as a form of mercy—limiting evil, creating urgency, and preventing suffering from becoming endless. We also consider the deeper question of spiritual separation from God, and how our choices shape a trajectory that doesn’t simply end at death.

From the guarded garden to the torn curtain at the cross, Scripture tells a consistent story—not just of judgment, but of restoration. The door that was once closed has been opened.

This message invites us to take both death and life seriously—and to recognize that the God who set limits on a broken world is the same God who made a way back to Himself.

Along the way, we wrestle with common assumptions, explore the relationship between free will and sin, and reframe the question itself.

Because the deeper issue isn’t simply why God created us—it’s why He continues to choose us.

Looking at passages like Hebrews 6, 2 Timothy 2, and Ezekiel 18, we see a consistent picture emerge: God does not delight in destruction, but in restoration. Rather than abandoning what is broken, He moves toward it.
