The following sermon was delivered as part of a joint service including the congregations of Comox United Church, Comox Presbyterian Church, and St. George’s United Church held at St. George’s. Rev. Murray Etty is a retired United Church Minister living in Campbell River.

The incarnation, Christmas, means not only Jesus is God. But that God is like Jesus. And that means everybody gets a present.

How we picture God usually depends on how we've grown up. But the nativity story offers us an image of God unlike all others.

We long for a different way. We long for another world to be born... Even though we believe that it’s too good to be true, we truly long for it to be so with every fiber of our being.

The Bible is relentless in its conviction that nothing that is skewed and distorted and deathly need remain as it is.

Isaiah shows us that God's work is more often than not slow and unseen--like green shoots from a stump.

We tend to think of the "end times" as a time of terror. Isaiah's vision is one of perpetual peace.
