  • Victory Through Suffering - Sep 19 - Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost
Jesus predicts his impending death three times in Mark's gospel, all three
times the disciples respond by arguing and fighting for power. But if Jesus' death
is the way he brings about his kingdom, then his people must embrace suffering and
give up aspirations of worldly power.

  • Why the Mission Doesn't Work - Sep 12 - Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost
When the disciples fell into the all-too-common trap of believing that the
power of God's mission was theirs, the mission Jesus had put them on inevitably
failed; but when we trust Jesus to do his own mission, and trust him to bring us
along with him, the mission of Jesus' kingdom and church will always succeed.

  • Should We Wear Masks? - Sep 5 - Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost
When do we, and when do we not, obey the government authorities? How do we
make decisions about personal behaviors that aren't explicitly addressed in
Scripture? Romans 13 and 14 give us Paul's direction on how to navigate these tense
    questions.

  • The Whole Person - Aug 22 - Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost
Christians tend to isolate one part of their humanity - their mind,
emotions, will, or body - and overemphasize that element to the exclusion of the
others, but Jesus wants us to worship him with our whole heart.

  • How Communion Works - Aug 15 - Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost
Because God became a physical human to rescue physical humans, the
salvation he won for us on the cross and from the empty tomb must necessarily be
physical, if it's to be salvation at all. And in the Lord's Supper this physical
salvation is given to his people - through the flesh of God, the Spirit of God, and
    the Word of God.

  • The Plan of God - Aug 8 - Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost
Jesus plainly teaches that no one can believe in him unless the Father
draws that person and gives them that faith as a gift. This sovereign choice, or
