What is Confirmation?

In the rite of Confirmation, baptized Christians confess their faith in Christ Jesus publicly and vow to live under His gracious Lordship for the remainder of their days.  When the confirmands were baptized, parents and sponsors made promises on their behalf to provide for their instruction and to nurture their formation in the Christian faith.  On the day that they are confirmed, the confirmands take upon themselves the responsibility of providing for their continued growth in the Christian faith through the hearing of God's Word and frequent reception of the Lord's Supper.

John 8:42–59, "Rejecting Jesus"

Although the people grumbled against Moses and Aaron - and against God, Himself - the LORD provided bread in the wilderness for them to eat.  Despite our prayerlessness, our inattention to His Word, and our sins - Christ Jesus gives us his true body to eat and his true blood to drink through which we receive the forgiveness of our sins and life everlasting.  In the cold barrenness of this world, God prepares a table for us in which He feeds us with true food and true drink.  We come to the Lord's table famished and parched, and leave refreshed and restored.

St. Augustine is credited with saying that "idolatry is worshipping things that are meant to be used and using what is meant to be worshipped."  Frequently, the things which attract us away from God are not evil in and of themselves, but gifts from God that we have mistakenly come to worship.  

The woman of Canaanite descent arrived with faith in Christ Jesus.  After an unusual interaction with the Savior, she left not only with her heart's deepest desire but also a deeper faith in Jesus.  Are there things happening in your life that perhaps the Lord is using to deepen your faith in Jesus?
