St. Luke Anglican Church episodes

  • Filtered for Truth

Authority, Vulnerability, and Authenticity - these are the foundations upon which the apostle Paul established his Christ message to the church in Corinth. Our lives are bombarded by voices with platforms and messages that take advantage of our natural inclination toward Confirmation Bias. We gravitate to what makes us feel good, right, and safe. Paul recognized this in pattern in Corinth, and chose the way of Christ, humility, and simply told the story of the cross through the lens of his own life. Paul encourages the Corinthians to be wary of messages and messengers that elevate position over people, and questioning the integrity and humility of our speakers is our responsibility, not cynicism.

  • Ordinary and Precious

James shared how the Apostle Paul humbly presented the truths of the Gospel to a community that was tempted by the world. The Light of the Gospel illuminating the mind produces a people who are simultaneously ordinary as jars of clay, yet extremely precious because we are related to and in proximity with the true treasure, Jesus Christ.

  • Seventh Sunday of Easter: The Ringing of the Bells

In celebration of Ascension Sunday in this season of Eastertide, James walks us through Jesus' returning to the Father and their reuniting. At the moment of farewell, Jesus sends out his followers to continue the work that they can't accomplish without Christ. Jesus does not only commission them, but promises his presence, his Name, and his prayer. In this, the disciples, and now we ourselves, are invited into greater clarity & focus, endurance, and connection as we await God the Father's ringing of the bells for our own reuniting with God.

  • Sixth Sunday of Easter: The Condemning Self & The Assuring Christ

Inner dialogues, we all have them. There are all manner of voices contained in our hearts and minds, vying for control and influence. When our hearts accuse us in the presence of God, who knows us in perfect intimacy, what do we tend to do? What can we do? Might there be another way?

  • Fifth Sunday of Easter: Lessons from Sunflowers

What do we do when we come face to face with the violence within our own hearts, our very shadow-selves? We are prompted to see that there are two main tendencies, to mar and destroy that which holds our blame, or to deny its existence altogether. But James invites us to witness the nature of Sunflowers: they turn themselves to face the Sun in reception and gratitude - this is the contemplative, Christ way forward for the transformation of our collective and individual darkness.

  • Fourth Sunday of Eastertide: The Uncentered Self of Faith

From the accounts of the Apostles, Rector James Madden reminds us that we are not the center of our narratives - no matter the high places or the low points we find ourselves. The resurrection of Christ demands we orient our lives in a new way.

  • Third Sunday of Easter: The Stigma of Christ

Continuing in this Easter season, guest preacher Kolby Kerr invites us to not rush past the marks of wound that the resurrected Christ bore. More than that, the memories of desertion and abandonment that the apostle Peter carried into his ministry. Our pasts are not erased, they are redeemed and a central part of our presence and work within the Kingdom of God.
