Today, May 1, our Lutheran Church remembers the disciples, Philip and James the Less. Both these men followed Jesus and were instrumental in proclaiming the good news of Christ's resurrection. Philip, more than James, is mentioned in the Gospel of John as one who brought others to know Jesus (John 1:45, 12:21). May you use the opportunities available to you to share the good news during these Great Fifty Days of Easter.

The 50 Days of Easter

Johann Walter was a Lutheran musician who assisted Luther in preparing his German Mass and the first Lutheran hymnal. Our Lutheran Church remembers him today, April 24, and we can also celebrate all our church musicians who contribute so much to our worship experiences. Walter prepared several chorale settings of Lutheran hymns. One which is particularly appropriate for this Easter season is "Christ Is Arisen" (Christ Ist Erstanden, LSB 459): "Christ is arisen from the grave's dark prison. So let our joy rise full and free; Christ our comfort true will be. Alleluia! Were Christ not arisen, then death were still our prison. Now, with Him to life restored, we praise the Father of our Lord. Alleluia! Now let our joy rise full and free; Christ our comfort true will be. Alleluia!"
