Christ began the great work of salvation in His mortal life. The Holy Ghost brings this work to completion through the Catholic Church, who proclaims this truth at the start of Advent, reminding man that he has no duty more pressing than the salvation of his soul.
Everything we experience now is passing. Yet Christ’s decree upon His Second Coming is everlasting. He who lives for this world is a complete fool. In all we do, we ought to be preparing ourselves for eternity.
St. Nicholas is one of history’s greatest miracle workers and patron saints. On account of his zeal for the truth, he punched the heretic Arius. The emperor in turn deposed and imprisoned him, but Our Lord and Our Lady visited him and restored him to honor.
