Is Genesis meant to be taken literally? Or is just made-up ancient myth? On this episode we interview C. John (Jack) Collins about his book 'Reading Genesis Well'. We talk about what kind of literature Genesis is, how it compares to other ancient origins stories, and how all this impacts our understanding of Genesis 1-3.

C. John Collins is Professor of Old Testament at Covenant Theological Seminary in St Louis, Missouri. He was Old Testament Chairman for the English Standard Version of the Bible, and is author of Science and Faith: Friends or Foes? (2003), Did Adam and Eve Really Exist?: Who They Were and Why You Should Care (2011), and Reading Genesis Well: Navigating History, Poetry, Science, and Truth in Genesis 1–11 (2018).

Robbie Strachan, Sarah Burkill, Ellie Wiener and Zachary Ardern introduce The Genesis Podcast. We talk about how Christians should approach the task of asking the tricky questions we have about this ancient text, and Sarah interviews Alasdair Paine about his book on Genesis 1-4, The First Chapters of Everything.

For the final episode this term, we're hearing about 'How to enjoy your relationship with God' from Nic Ross and Alex Weston are talking about. How can prayer, Bible reading, and knowing God be things that you really enjoy each day.  There'll be a short Q&A right at the end of the talk. Ann Judson was one of the first women to go out from America as a missionary. She lived a short life, only to the age of 36. Ann and her husband  Adoniram were influential in starting the church in Burma (now Myanmar) in the early 19th century.

Perfect for looking ahead to a Christian Union mission week, Piyush shows us the importance of mission in the Bible and recounts some of his experiences. As with a marathon, you don't start without aiming to get to the end. So it's the same in the Christian life: finishing to the end is our goal. But how can you be sure that you'll make it all the way to the end? How can we be confident that nothing will come and knock us out of the race? Understanding Christian perseverance has massive implications, but it should bring us great security, liberation, and joy.
