Stage & Screen

We caught up with recent graduate Mckenzi Massey ('22; BFA Theatre Arts, emphasis Design and Technical Production; BA English), who's been working with our department as the costume designer for our closing production of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. Since graduation, Mckenzi has also started her own custom garment and alterations business—right here in Oxford.

We caught up with assistant professor John Carden to talk about his vision for our department's production of "Little Shop of Horrors."

Say hello to the newest member of our BFA Film Production faculty: Michael Tuxhorn, a.k.a. Tux. Michael comes to us with a broad background in film, largely in writing screenplays and television pilots. We talked about all that and the work they're doing with the students in our department.

Our guests today are alums Shelby Grady and Gavin Fields, filmmakers and founders of the Lil Cowboy production company. They will be coming to the University of Mississippi March 6th and 7th to screen their recent film BRUTAL SEASON and host a filmmaking workshop. We talked about all that and so much more!

In this episode, we're talking with guest director and professor Beth Reeves, who came to us from Columbus State University to direct our production of Naomi Iizuka's POLAROID STORIES and teach a directing class and special workshop.

The Spring 2023 semester is underway, and we're kicking it off with a quick update about what we've going on in the Department of Theatre and Film.

John Carden joined the Department of Theatre & Film in the fall 2022 semester as our Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre. John comes to us by way of New York — among other places, national and international — with a background in both opera and musical theatre, the latter of which he performs, composes, and teaches.

In this episode, we catch up with Assistant Professor of FIlm Production Jaye Davidson, who, aside from working on her own film—and recently having a baby—is co-producing several big films.

In this episode, we caught up with Joe Jackson, who is the Department of Theatre & Film's new Instructional Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre Dance. Fun fact about Joe—he's actually an alum of our program! We talked about that, and what he's teaching, and so many other things.

In this episode, we're visiting with our assistant professor of movement for the actor, Lauren Bone Noble, who is here to tell us all about her solo show FURY!, which is an interpretation of the Greek myth of Medea told in the Bouffon clown style. Lauren had so many fascinating things to say about Medea, about clowning, and about her experiences performing this show.
