Since 2020, at least 52 reports of stalking cases against sports figures have been recorded, but this figure is believed to be far undercounted because many victims are reluctant to report it to authorities. 
This problem is fueled by the increasing popularity of sports (especially women's sports), easy access through social media, and the influence of online gambling.
